Call the Midwife!

Okay, my favorite show, hands down, is back for the second season!

Call the Midwife is about midwives and nurses in post-war London. It's a very heartfelt show and all the actresses are absolutely wonderful :).

All pictures from the "Call the Midwife" Facebook page.

The characters are all loveable and relateable, and I just really love it.

I watch it with my mum, who is actually a Doula (which is kind of like a midwife, only more involved) and she really enjoys it too. I mean, nurse outfits, midcentury fashion, and babies! Whats not to love?!

Don't get me wrong, it certainly isn't all rainbows and butterflies, but it's an excellent drama, I suggest you check it out if you haven't already!

40's Up-Do Attempt

I just watched a really cute vintage movie...and when that happens I love to dress up. This was an attempt at a 40's hairstyle. I definite; need to work on making it look smoother. It seems like the only way my hair can look good is when its half up and half down and naturally curly, but I determined to master the sleek 40's up-do's!

In case you are wondering, the movie was called, "Andy Hardy's Blonde Trouble." It was one of the MGM studio's movies from the 40's staring Mickey Rooney...and vintage twins! Lee and Lyn Wilde were the blondes that were the trouble. They are absolutely adorable!

I found these shoes at a thrift store, and I think they look a tad vintage.

Please don't mind the mud on my heels!

Full-fashioned back seam stockings of course!

I made chocolate mousse a few hours ago. I am not sure how it turned out because it has to set for 4 to 6 hours, but I am pretty sure it is going to taste wonderful. I made a chocolate cake the other day because I wanted to. Here's proof!

It was very good. :)

Here is a picture of Mickey Rooney and Lee and Lyn Wilde

Aren't they just darling?

Alice...Ish

Well....this happened.

It's funny, people keep saying the weather is crazy, but it's spring! Spring basically equals crazy weather. One day you might have a snow storm, and the next day you might have 60 degree shorts weather.

Since it looked like a winter wonderland when I woke up, of course I thought of Alice in Wonderland, so I kinda dressed like her.

This apron is one I made awhile ago. I mainly use it for sewing because it has great, deep pockets to put a pin cushion, or a pair of scissors in. I think I might actually sew a scissors loop on the waistband also. I'm sure I'll get around to it.

I had to wear my boots again (not disappointed at all) however, it did make my outfit come across as an overgrown pioneer farm girl rather than a coy Alice. Oh well. You can't win them all.

And since I mainly just wanted to wear the apron, I decided to wear this blue dress that is actually in my "Re-work" pile. The sleeves, neckline, and waist are off. It's too big and the sleeves/neckline are hideously 80's. I was thinking about shortening the sleeves a bit, making them fit slimmer, and removing the hideous awkward collar. I'm glad the apron is covering that monstrosity.

And of course, kitty Bear was very interested in what I was doing.

I wish the focus wasn't so off on this one, it's a really cute picture otherwise.

Then he decided to watch me from the fence...

I hope your spring is off to a great start, whether you are shoveling snow, picking up your patio umbrella from the neighbors lawn, or cooling off with a lemonade.

Here's to looking forward to the warmer, and stabler months!

A Very Blustery Day

I love the word blustery. It makes me happy. However, when it's below freezing and blustery it does not make me happy. But I do love a good warm blustery spring day.

With wind chill factored in, it was a whopping 18 degrees outside. I have a ton of pictures for this post because I was having way too much fun with my camera's self-timer.

Unfortunately I don't have a tri-pod, so I have to put my camera on something. Here, it's propped up on the fence.

I wore this running errands. I had to go the post office and grocery store today. I always feel like I accomplish more when I wear a nice outfit.

Usually my mom (or someone else I can rope into it) takes the pictures, but the house was pretty empty today.

This is an outfit I have never worn before because the skirt is new (hahaha, well new to me). I found it thrifting a few weeks ago and it looked too small but i bought it anyway because I am crazy. It ended up somewhat fitting, but was still too tight for comfort....And then I noticed something awesome.

Someone had taken it in! So I promptly took it out and now it fits wonderfully! I am calling it my good lucky skirt because the previous owner lost weight, maybe some will rub off on me :)

I have had this blouse for about 6 years. I remember wearing it for my final speech in speech class freshmen year. I wore it with wide leg pin striped grey slacks and ballet flats. And I killed my speech. I never understood why people didn't like that class, I absolutely adored it!

Also, I am kind of confused about this hat. It looks 30's or 40's, but I really don't know a time frame. It's just the cutest bonnet-style hat. I wear it slightly crooked so the back is to the side on my head rather than at the back of it.

This outfit has an adventurer vibe to it. I felt like a female Indiana Jones when I was wearing it. Don't you just love clothes that make you feel like you can be anything? It's the best. I'm a paleontologist, or an archaeologist, or a sleuthing reporter!

Wishing for Spring

I really love my new boots. They are just what I have been looking for. And they were meant to be with me. Just wait til I tell you the story.

Listen my children and you will hear
Of a girl who found her perfect boots, my dear.

Hah. My poetry skills are not the best.

It happened like this. I have been scouring stores in my area for the perfect lace up boot all this season, but nothing really caught my eye, or if it did, it was $500. What can I say, I'm a girl with expensive tastes. Anyway, for my birthday, my mom wanted to get me boots so we went to Macy's. I looked all around the boot section, but it was sorely lacking because they were clearing the way for the spring collections. Then I saw her. A lone boot in a sea of lack luster clearance items. To my displeasure, it was marked a 6 1/2 and I wear an 8 1/2. In a last ditch effort I went to the customer service counter to see if they had anymore, but unfortunately that was the last pair. Then the nice lady volunteered to look up and see if they had any at any other other locations. They had one single pair in my size in the whole entire state of Ohio. And guess what? It was the second closest Macy's to our house. However, it was late at night and they were closing, so my mom asked them to hold it until the next day.

Well, the next day came and I was out of the house, and when I came back I asked my mom if she had been to Macy's. She told me she had but that they let the shoes go in the morning. Gasp! Some same size foot lady who was probably not very appreciative of such an awesome pair of boots carted my babies off. Oh well, you can't win them all...

Except! My mom is sneaky and actually bought them, but decided to surprise me. Hehehehe. Silly mommy tricks are for kids. So now I have my perfect lace up boot. :)

This dress is one I found thrifting. It appears to be a 40's or early 50's cotton feedsack dress. It may not be a feedsack dress, but the print seems indicative of one. It's obviously handmade, with pinked seams, a sweetheart neckline, and really cute carved plastic buttons. It's a princess seamed dress with no waistline, so to define the waist, they made a wide-ish fabric belt.

The stockings are also a thrifted item. I almost didn't look at the hose, but I figured I might as well because why not? And I was rewarded with a pair of deadstock seamless stockings. These stockings are super shiny. When I put them on my sister thought I shined my legs up. Hah. I love the black band, but it makes them a bit more conspicuous. But I suppose that if I am lifting my dress up, I am not exactly being inconspicuous.

And here is me awkwardly jumping and looking like I am chewing a lemon. For your enjoyment.

Cooking

Lately I have been in a very cooking mood. I usually love to cook, but I don't do it all that often.

Today I made a peach upside down cake from scratch of course and yesterday I made Cheddar Bay Biscuits. From scratch. Ok...well not exactly that one was a mix, but I bet I could figure out a very similar recipe on my own. And you know what? They taste EXACTLY like the ones from Red Lobster, probably because they are Red Lobster brand.

Antiquing and Such

Hey y'all!

In case you were wondering I had a great birthday. Full of chocolate cake and good wishes, and finally a pair of lace up boots! (something that has been on my want list for quite a long time now).

Then the next day my best friend took me out to a fancy diner, bought me a new purse, and made me an awesome card...if I was a little more emotional I probably would have cried. I meant to dress up and be really fancy for my birthday, but that didn't really happen, and I forgot to take any pictures, but I have a few from the antique mall. I am spending the week (Spring Break) with my sister and on the way back to her house we decided to stop at one of the antique malls in Springfield. Unfortunately I am really broke right so I didn't get anything, but it was a fun time.

Oh yeah, I also got a new pair of glasses! I usually take mine off for pictures, but I like these a lot better than my last pair, so I will probably be wearing them more often in pictures. They aren't quite as Catty as I hoped, but I think they look nice and the tortoise shell better suits my complexion and hair than my old black ones.

Really cool clock that was only $15,000, no big deal.

This was an old phone booth...without the phone.

My new birthday boots!

And this hat was really funny! I love the flower streamers. Too darn cute.

The dress is one I wear often, but don't particularly like. I know it doesn't make much sense, but it's easy because it's soft cotton, and the waistband is stretchy so it's super comfy. I do think the print is kind of cute though. It's tropical flowers and really funny looking parrots with weird hair.

Last Day As A Teenager

Well, it's March 2nd. For most people it's just the second day of March, but for me, it's the day before my birthday. It's a milestone birthday because I will be turning 20! I can't even believe it, it just sneaked up on me so fast. Officially my last day as a teenager.

Now excuse me while I go do a bunch of "stupid teenager" things.
