She's A Lady

I wish more ladies dressed like....well, ladies. Today I went to run some errands with my mom and I was noticing a severe lack of ladylikeness in how women dress this day in age. To be fair, the amount of girls and women wearing dresses and skirts has increased as of late, but it's usually in the summer and it's always poor quality pieces. I rarely see women wearing skirts and dresses in the winter or fall. I was the only woman, that I saw, wearing a skirt today. I just think it's funny. It also gets you noticed. I usually gets smiles and second looks from men when I dress like a lady (which is pretty much always). I will stop ranting now.

I just adore these shoes. T-straps always make me feel infinitesimally more lady like. This skirt was my sister's and I have been "borrowing" it for the past 4 years or so. It's basically mine, but I suppose she could take it back if she really wanted too.

I went to the post office, Trader Joe's, and Kroger's. I wanted to stop at Anthropologie and drool over their pretty clothes, but my mom didn't want to get out and walk around because there were droves of people at the mall today. It was probably the mild, partly sunny weather that forced them out of their caves and into the light. I'm making people sound like moles hahaha.

Hopefully tomorrow will be equally nice!

Hats Off to You!

Well hello there, sailor! I have not great quality photos again, because I couldn't manage to get any before the sun went down. I was just not going to do any pictures, but I really liked this outfit, and took a bit of time on my hair. This is the result of rag curls. You see, last night I watched the movie, "You'll Never Get Rich" with Rita Hayworth and I was loving the chorus girls curls! (By the way, it's a really cute movie, you should watch it!

Whenever I wear this hat,I also feel like I should be saying, "Hello Sailor!" hahah, I have no idea why, because doesn't even look nautical.

I went out tonight with two of my friends to the movies and we had a fun time. The movie we saw was not that great (Beautiful Creatures) but the costumes were pretty. During the movie I got up to go use the restroom and I got so many looks because two movies were just getting out. It's hard to fly under the radar as it is when you wear vintage, but when you wear vintage and happen to be 6'1", it's entirely impossible. So I just toss my head, hold it up high, and strut like I am on the runway. If they are going to look, I might as well give them a nice show!

This is one of my favorite dresses of all time! It fits me almost perfectly....if it were only about an inch or two longer in the waist, but it still fits very well. I just adore all the details (whoever made it sewed a metal bar across the low part of the neckline, so it would stay flat!). I think it's a late 40's piece because of the construction and the 16 gore swingy skirt.

Have a good weekend guys!

Gold on the Ceiling...

I love the Black Keys.

Their sound is so cool, part indie, part jazzy, part awesome! You may have noticed a lack of posts lately. This is because of the weather. It's been too cold for anything, so I have been trying to stay warm (which is hard to do when your car heater doesn't exactly work)! I went thrifting today and found an awesome pair of gold Daniel Green boudoir slippers, how I wish they fit me! Oh well, they will be going into the shop. After I got home, I realized they matched a purse I had almost perfectly.

Stay warm y'all!

Très Chic?

 via
When I walked out in this outfit my mom said, "wow! you look French!". Hahahah my mom is so funny. Not everyone in France walks around in black on black, but I did feel a little chic. This outfit is actually from Sunday when I when antiquing with my friend. I haven't gotten around to posting because I have 2 exams this week. Well now I have one, my chem exam was yesterday. So I am trying to study for Biology, but there are a million other things I would rather be doing. Nothing productive, but it seems I am lacking motivation to study. I am really craving a white pizza though (stupid Pinterest) so maybe I will go eat and then be contented to do my schoolin'. Decisions, decisions.

This outfit kind of looks like a dress, but it's a swingy skirt and a top (I just realized you can see hair on it...but I don't really care, I have about a million animals).

It's also Valentine's Day today. Hmmm.

If you have been on here before, you may have noticed that I appear to be "single". You would be correct in thinking that. Why do we say single anyway? It just makes me want a burger from Wendy's....and if we call single people single,, why don't we call couples a double? It seems entirely logical to me.

Anyway, I don't have a boyfriend. I have not had one since spring of Sophomore year in high school, so that would be about 4 years. I don't really care. Sometimes it's a bit of a bummer, but not really. Relationships seem like a lot of work. I also have pretty high standards, so it's all good. I don't want to just toss my "qualifications" aside for any old guy (especially not old guys). I would say my biggest eliminator is height. Right away it weeds out about 80% of men.

I could go on, but I have a Biology exam to study for. Happy Valentine's Day to everyone :)

A Walk in the Woods

So this morning, I was awoken, as per usual, by my adorable dog asking me if she can go take her morning constitutional (actually it's more like she just barks her head off until I wake up, but that sounds much nicer). Anyway, it was about 8 in the morning, and I was tired, but the bright sun made me happy and not crawl back into bed like I normally would. It's strange, because Ohio has a nice forecast, while all around us, there are blizzards! Sending out safe wishes to all my east coast friends and family who were hit with all that snow!

I took her out, and got my self a bowl of cereal and decided to take her for a walk in the woods. There is a nice spot about a 3 minute drive away from my house, so I thought I could do an outfit post too. So I wrangled my mom and Roxie and we went over to the pretty little spot and had fun with my mom and puppy.

I love this shirt. I got it from Kohl"s last year and the print is cute little butterflies! I call it Roxie's shirt because she is a Papillon and it means "Butterfly" in French. How could I pass it up?!

The sun was really bright, and it was cold, but I was moving around quite a bit so I wasn't really too cold. Plus I was wearing pants for once! Hahaha.

I was reading a recent post by Gertie, and she talked about how she was wanting to be "cooler" and going through a style shift. I can totally relate. Only, with me, I dress in a lot of vintage, but I don't feel like it's something I always have to do. See, that's the beauty of the modern times, you get to wear vintage while looking at things on the internet, or even playing on  your smartphone. The fact is, it's not 1952 (as much as I wish it were)! We don't Have to do anything, and we don't owe anyone anything either. Make yourself happy! If you want to wear a flannel button down and leggings with boots one day, then circle skirt and sweater set with pearls the next, go for it. When you get down to it, fashion is personal, and personally, I am going to do what I want.  :)

I love my Minnetonka moccasins! This is my second pair, actually, my first pair were dark brown. I discovered that I should go down a size or a half size, they feel better snug, and they stretch a little to fit your feet.

Well, I have been feeling crafty lately, so I am thinking about cutting into one of my Butterick vintage reproduction patterns. I got 6 of them (including Gertie's wiggle dress and coat pattern!) a few weeks ago at JoAnns because they were on sale for $2!I don't have fabric though, so it would require a trip to the fabric store, and I should probably not be spending my money, so maybe I will do some embroidery or perhaps try to make a slip dress. I have been wanting to try and make one for a while now.

Have a great day y'all!

A Nod to Mod

Hey, so this hardly ever happens, two outfit posts, two days in a row! But I just couldn't help it. The weather has been so dreadful lately, and today it was really nice. The sun was just beating down, and I nearly broke a sweat in tights and a coat!

I have never worn this dress before, but I thought the weather was asking for it, so I broke it out today. It's a vintage dress that I saved from my sister who was thinking about cutting it up and re-using the fabric. For me, the length is a bit weird, so I was considering hemming up about 3"-5" inches for more of a mini dress look. Any thoughts? It's pure silk, and it looks like it was either custom designed, or custom tailored. There is a slit in the back, but there is a modesty panel-thing behind it, I have never seen that design feature before! It not a normal kick pleat or slit, but I like it.

I just adore the pink geometrical print. So 60's!

The sun was so bright, so the pictures are a bit over-exposed.

I don't know if you can really see the "modesty panel" for the slit, but it's there! It's made with self fabric, so it's not really noticeable.

The coat is an awesome thrifting find, that I found on the same day as my other black coat.

It's also a bit snug in the chest, but I don't really care. This dress is a definite no for busty girls because  of the neckline, and maybe even the print and color, but I just think it's darling!

I did 60's inspired make-up too, but for some reason, my face doesn't show make-up very well in photos. I used quite a generous amount of mascara on my bottom lashes, wore a very light lavender colored eye shadow, and did a pink lip. Oh, and a small cat-eye.

It's perfect weather right now to listen to Simon & Garfunkel, and that is exactly what I am doing. Even more specifically, the song that's on right now is Scarborough Fair (one of my all time favorites!) Some other good music for this sunny, warmish weather is She and Him, Nancy Sinatra, The Black Keys, Of Monsters and Men, and The Beatles.

Enjoy your day everyone!

Happy Wednesday!

Hey all! I hope you're having a good Wednesday :). The middle of the week always seems to be dreaded, but Wednesday is the first day I can start to taste the glorious weekend ahead. I think it's silly that people claim to hate days. While Monday's and Wednesday seem to be the most common offenders, I have a friend from high school  that hates Thursday's! Hahaha, she always puts a smile on my face. How can you hate days?!! They are days in your life, so it's like hating life in a way. Anyway, I will end my mini rant now.

Today I woke up late and had no time to re-do my hair (you will be able to see that I was playing with it last night). I had no idea what to wear because I haven't done laundry in a while, so I threw on this oufit and was pretty pleased with it.

The shirt is a blouse I found on sale at Old Navy. It was after Christmas and I had a gift card, and when I went in, they were having a huge sale! So picked this up because I liked the grey and knew as soon as I felt it, that it was Rayon. Of course I bought it! Plus it was only about $8!

This skirt is one I found thrifting. It's modern and too big, but I bought it because I liked the fabric. I have yet to alter it to make it fit me better. As it is, it sits right above my hip, and it's meant to sit at the natural waist. I have it pinned on either side of the zipper here, and it's still too loose, but it works!

I had school all day, and this outfit was really comfortable. I wish I could say that's the way I felt about my chemistry quiz, but alas, I cannot. Darn you, College!

Okay, so now I will show you the hair...

Last night I came across a tutorial on Youtube for a heart hairstyle, and since I didn't have anything better to do I tried it out. It's cute, but I can't see the back of my hair while I fix it, so the parting came out all wonky. To hide the weird bald-looking spots, I put a giant hair bow in it, it takes away from the heart shpe, but it wasn't really that great to begin with.

The middle looks funny because I took too much hair out for the braid. For those of interested in the hairstyle, here is the link.

Good Things Come to Those Who Wait

Well I suppose y'all have waited (nearly 10 days..oops), but the only good thing coming your way is a post! I don't really know where the time went. I have been studying a lot for school because my Chemistry class is extremely hard, and this past weekend I visited my sister Heidi in Dayton. So I guess that's where the time went.

Lately I have been disliking weather in general because Ohio certainly has been...weather-y. First freezing, then warm, then freezing again, then mild, then white-out conditions, blech! Me not like (don't you love my proper grammar?). These pictures are indoors and shadow-y, but I didn't want to wait any longer to post!

I had kind of a bad hair day today, what with the weather and all.

This is one of my favorite dresses. It's not the most flattering, but I love how easy it is to wear.

Roxie wanted to be in the pictures too! She ran up to me and kept asking for me to pick her up. She really is precious :).

In my absence from blogging, I had an old friend that I've known for a while call me and get back in touch and we have made plans to go antiquing, so I am looking forward to that this weekend.

Also, my youngest nephew, Carter turned 1 (his birthday was January 29th). Funny story, I was sleeping on my sister's couch the night she went into labor, so when her and my mom left, they woke me up and told me, and all I could think of to say was, "Sunday's child is full of grace". It's a line from an old poem, only that isn't the right verse, in my sleep deprivation, I got them mixed up :).

I found a picture of him and I when he was a day or two old.

He is so big now!!

Enjoy your evenings everyone :)
